Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie provide services for the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. They devote approximately ten years in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and in fact several podiatry programs are located inside these schools. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have acquired extensive medical education with an emphasis on conditions pertaining to the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to deal with difficulties ranging from simple conditions for instance ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are much more challenging for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have extensive surgical education which furnish them the expertise needed to carry out surgical treatment on those complications that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet withstand as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait deviations permits a Podiatric doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and reduce the chances of numerous conditions which the feet generally encounter.
