Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialise in the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our doctors invest an average of 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to usual medical school and numerous podiatry programs are located inside these schools. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
Upon the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have received extensive health care instruction with a concentration on difficulties regarding the feet and ankles. They are qualified to handle concerns stretching from normal disorders for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more perplexing including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical training which give them the prior experience necessary to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet withstand as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait peculiarities enables a Podiatric doctor to develop footwear and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and help prevent a large number of complications which the feet normally experience.
