Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists invest an average of ten years in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in point of fact various podiatry training programs are contained within these schools. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received significant medical education with an emphasis on complications concerning the ankles and feet. They are studied to treat conditions ranging from familiar disorders for instance, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more obscure for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical education which provide them the experience essential to execute surgery on those conditions that are best treated through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait problems makes it easy for a Podiatrist to develop footwear and orthotics that can offer pain relief and reduce the chances of many troubles which the feet usually encounter.
