Medical professionals at The Foot Institute – Camrose specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. They spend approximately 10 years in education, the first four years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and as a matter of fact several podiatry programmes are located within these schools. Upon securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have obtained extensive medical training with a concentration on difficulties pertaining to the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to address conditions varying from familiar problems for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are far more sophisticated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have substantial surgical education which provide them the prior experience necessary to conduct surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities allows a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics that can offer pain relief and prevent many complications which the feet typically experience.
