Physicians at The Foot Institute – Camrose specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists invest an average of ten years in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles traditional medical school and in fact many podiatry programs are located inside these schools. Upon getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.
At the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have received considerable health care training with an emphasis on problems involving the ankles and feet. They are trained to address conditions ranging from common afflictions for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are even more challenging like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have thorough surgical instruction which provide them the prior experience required to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it possible for a Foot doctor to develop shoes and orthotics that can provide pain relief and reduce the chances of a large number of troubles which the feet commonly encounter.
