Physicians here at The Foot Institute – Camrose concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors devote about a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in reality several podiatry programs are located inside these institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.
At the conclusion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have received wide-ranging healthcare training with a stress on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are studied to treat concerns ranging from commonplace conditions for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more intricate for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have significant surgical training which give them the expertise necessary to execute surgical treatment on those concerns that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors furthermore have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait irregularities empowers a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics which can provide pain relief and help prevent a large number of conditions which the feet regularly encounter.
