Physicians at The Foot Institute – Camrose specialise in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists spend an average of 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in fact numerous podiatry training programs are located inside these academic institutions. After getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have received comprehensive medical training with a main focus on problems pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are instructed to deal with complications stretching from commonplace problems such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are a lot more challenging such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have thorough surgical instruction which give them the experience necessary to perform surgery on those problems that are best remedied through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it easy for a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and defend against countless conditions which the feet usually experience.
