Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Camrose specialise in the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. They spend approximately 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and several podiatry training programs are contained inside these institutions. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have received thorough healthcare training with an emphasis on concerns involving the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to care for concerns extending from basic disorders like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more intricate such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have substantial surgical training which furnish them the prior experience required to carry out surgery on those complications that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it possible for a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and protect against many problems which the feet routinely experience.
