Airdrie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. They invest approximately ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes lie inside these academic institutions. Upon attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have received significant healthcare training with a main focus on concerns regarding the feet and ankles. They are trained to handle problems ranging from normal ailments such as ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more obscure for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical instruction which supply them the experience required to conduct surgical treatment on those problems that are best remedied through surgical treatment.

Our Doctors additionally have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait abnormalities allows a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and avoid numerous complications which the feet typically encounter.
