Airdrie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors spend an average of 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and in point of fact quite a number podiatry programmes are contained inside these schools. Upon receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have received comprehensive health care instruction with a main focus on issues pertaining to the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to handle problems extending from simple ailments like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more intricate for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have considerable surgical training which give them the experience required to execute surgical treatment on those problems that are best treated through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait abnormalities allows a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and avoid countless complications which the feet normally experience.
