Airdrie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Specialists at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. They invest an average of 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in point of fact various podiatry programs are located within these schools. Upon receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.

Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received considerable health care instruction with an emphasis on issues concerning the ankles and feet. They are taught to deal with problems ranging from regular ailments such as ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more perplexing for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have substantial surgical instruction which give them the prior experience required to execute surgical treatment on those concerns that are best managed through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it possible for a Podiatric physician to develop shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and minimize the risk of many complications which the feet usually encounter.
