Physicians at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. They put in an average of 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in point of fact a number of podiatry programmes lie within these schools. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.

Upon the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have received encompassing healthcare training with an importance on issues involving the ankles and feet. They are educated to manage difficulties extending from conventional afflictions for instance, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are even more complicated for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which provide them the practical experience essential to carry out surgery on those concerns that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors additionally have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait peculiarities allows a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and avoid many issues which the feet typically encounter.
