Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors put in an average of a decade in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in reality many podiatry training programs are located within these academic institutions. Upon securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have obtained comprehensive health care instruction with an emphasis on complications pertaining to the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to care for difficulties ranging from standard conditions for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more obscure such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have thorough surgical education which furnish them the experience essential to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best remedied through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait peculiarities allows a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and prevent a large number of complications which the feet usually encounter.
