Physicians here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. They put in around 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in point of fact several podiatry training programs are located within these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.

Upon the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have received considerable medical education with an emphasis on issues regarding the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are qualified to treat difficulties varying from normal afflictions such as ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more sophisticated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have considerable surgical education which furnish them the expertise required to execute surgery on those problems that are best remedied through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait deviations makes it possible for a Podiatrist to develop footwear and orthotics which can give pain relief and reduce the chances of many troubles which the feet normally encounter.
