Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend approximately ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry training programs lie within these academic institutions. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have obtained comprehensive medical education with an emphasis on conditions involving the feet and ankles. They are skilled to care for difficulties ranging from typical problems for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more complicated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical training which give them the skill required to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities empowers a Podiatric doctor to create shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and defend against many problems which the feet frequently encounter.
