Physicians at The Foot Institute – Red Deer provide services for the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors spend about a decade in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and as a matter of fact numerous podiatry programmes are located within these institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have acquired extensive medical training with a stress on difficulties pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are taught to treat conditions varying from standard problems for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are a lot more complicated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have comprehensive surgical instruction which give them the practical experience needed to perform surgery on those concerns that are best remedied through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Podiatric physician to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and prevent countless issues which the feet commonly encounter.
