Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists put in approximately a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and in fact several podiatry training programs lie inside these schools. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.

Upon the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained significant healthcare training with a main focus on conditions concerning the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are educated to deal with issues ranging from typical afflictions for instance, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more obscure for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have considerable surgical training which provide them the practical experience necessary to perform surgery on those conditions that are ideally managed through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors also have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait abnormalities enables a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and help prevent numerous complications which the feet typically experience.
