Grande Prairie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Physicians at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists invest an average of 10 years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to get a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry programs are located within these academic institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.

At the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have gained significant medical instruction with an emphasis on complications regarding the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to address problems ranging from commonplace ailments like fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are far more complicated for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical instruction which give them the practical experience needed to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best managed through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet experience as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait deviations enables a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and avoid many problems which the feet frequently experience.
