Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors devote an average of a decade in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in point of fact numerous podiatry programs lie within these institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained substantial medical training with a focus on conditions involving the feet and ankles. They are trained to treat complications varying from basic afflictions for example, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are even more perplexing for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have extensive surgical education which give them the practical experience required to perform surgery on those conditions that are ideally remedied through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait peculiarities empowers a Podiatric physician to create shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and avoid many troubles which the feet normally encounter.
