Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors put in an average of 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes are contained inside these academic institutions. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received wide-ranging healthcare instruction with a focus on concerns pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are educated to treat problems varying from basic problems like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are even more challenging like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have considerable surgical education which give them the prior experience necessary to perform surgery on those issues that are best remedied through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it possible for a Podiatric physician to create footwear and orthotics which can offer pain relief and prevent many conditions which the feet commonly experience.
