Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie provide services for the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our doctors invest around a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in point of fact several podiatry programmes are contained inside these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have received thorough medical training with a focus on problems regarding the ankles and feet. They are educated to treat issues varying from normal conditions such as ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more sophisticated for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have considerable surgical education which give them the skill needed to execute surgical treatment on those concerns that are ideally remedied through surgical treatment.
Foot Institute Doctors also have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait abnormalities allows a Podiatric doctor to create footwear and orthotics which can offer pain relief and avoid many problems which the feet routinely encounter.
