Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors put in about 10 years in learning, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to typical medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry programs are located inside these schools. After procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have received extensive medical education with a stress on issues involving the feet and ankles. They are skilled to address problems ranging from regular disorders for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more perplexing such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have substantial surgical training which give them the experience necessary to carry out surgical treatment on those conditions that are best remedied through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait deviations makes it easy for a Podiatric doctor to design footwear and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and help prevent a large number of conditions which the feet commonly experience.
