Grande Prairie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Health professionals at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists invest approximately 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in reality several podiatry training programs are located within these schools. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.

At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have obtained thorough medical training with a concentration on problems pertaining to the feet and ankles. They are trained to treat problems stretching from conventional disorders such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more puzzling such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical education which supply them the experience required to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best remedied through surgical intervention.

Doctors at the Foot Institute additionally have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet withstand as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait problems makes it possible for a Podiatrist to create shoes and orthotics that can bestow pain relief and protect against many troubles which the feet routinely encounter.
