Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists devote around ten years in learning, the first four years in undergrad studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and in fact several podiatry programmes are located inside these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.
Upon the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received thorough medical education with a main focus on conditions pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are educated to address problems varying from general afflictions like fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more complicated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have extensive surgical instruction which furnish them the experience vital to conduct surgery on those conditions that are best handled through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors also have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait irregularities facilitates a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and protect against countless troubles which the feet commonly encounter.
