Podiatrists here at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Doctors put in approximately a decade in education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to usual medical school and in reality various podiatry programs are contained within these institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have received substantial medical instruction with a concentration on conditions pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are trained to deal with problems varying from usual ailments for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are more obscure including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have substantial surgical instruction which give them the experience needed to perform surgery on those concerns that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait problems permits a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can deliver pain relief and protect against numerous issues which the feet normally encounter.
