Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists spend approximately a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in fact a number of podiatry training programs are located within these academic institutions. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Foot doctors have gained encompassing healthcare instruction with a concentration on problems involving the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to manage problems ranging from conventional ailments for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more challenging like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have considerable surgical instruction which furnish them the prior experience essential to conduct surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally remedied through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait abnormalities makes it possible for a Podiatrist to design footwear and orthotics that can provide pain relief and defend against numerous problems which the feet regularly encounter.
