Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie specialise in the medical and surgical therapy of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists invest an average of a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in point of fact several podiatry programs are located inside these schools. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.

Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have acquired extensive medical education with an emphasis on problems concerning the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are qualified to address problems extending from simple disorders for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are a lot more challenging for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have extensive surgical education which give them the expertise necessary to perform surgical treatment on those complications that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Foot Institute Doctors additionally have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait peculiarities enables a Podiatric doctor to develop shoes and orthotics that can provide pain relief and prevent many issues which the feet typically encounter.
