Doctors at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors invest about 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles standard medical school and in reality several podiatry training programs lie within these schools. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have received considerable medical instruction with a concentration on concerns pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are educated to treat conditions ranging from basic disorders like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more complicated for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have considerable surgical training which provide them the experience necessary to conduct surgical treatment on those problems that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Comprehending biomechanics and gait deviations allows a Podiatric doctor to develop shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and reduce the chances of many conditions which the feet frequently encounter.
