Dr.’s at The Foot Institute – Grande Prairie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors devote approximately 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and in reality various podiatry programmes are located within these schools. Upon achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have received considerable healthcare training with an emphasis on difficulties concerning the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to manage problems stretching from common problems such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more perplexing for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical instruction which give them the experience vital to conduct surgical treatment on those troubles that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs receive as we walk, run or perform other activities. Learning about biomechanics and gait irregularities allows a Podiatric doctor to design footwear and orthotics which can offer pain relief and help prevent numerous troubles which the feet generally encounter.
