Physicians here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. They spend approximately a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and in point of fact many podiatry training programs are contained within these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.
Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have received comprehensive healthcare training with an importance on complications pertaining to the feet and ankles. They are qualified to care for difficulties stretching from general afflictions for example, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more intricate for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have comprehensive surgical education which furnish them the experience necessary to execute surgery on those complications that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait irregularities facilitates a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and protect against numerous conditions which the feet usually encounter.
