Health professionals here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the foot and ankle. They devote approximately a decade in learning, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to usual medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry programmes are contained within these schools. Upon procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have gained substantial health care training with a concentration on difficulties involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to deal with complications stretching from regular ailments such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more perplexing such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have extensive surgical education which provide them the expertise required to execute surgery on those complications that are best remedied through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait abnormalities empowers a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and reduce the chances of countless issues which the feet routinely encounter.
