Dr.’s here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our doctors put in an average of 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the next 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to usual medical school and as a matter of fact several podiatry programs are located within these institutions. After acquiring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for yet another one to three years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric physicians have received extensive healthcare training with an importance on concerns pertaining to the ankles and feet. They are studied to treat conditions ranging from standard afflictions for instance fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are a lot more intricate such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical education which provide them the prior experience required to carry out surgery on those troubles that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it possible for a Podiatric physician to develop shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and prevent numerous problems which the feet generally encounter.
