Airdrie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the surgical and medical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists spend an average of ten years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to traditional medical school and in fact numerous podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. After getting a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute carry out a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.

Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have acquired substantial healthcare training with an emphasis on complications pertaining to the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are educated to treat problems stretching from conventional disorders for instance ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are far more sophisticated such as clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have considerable surgical training which supply them the prior experience necessary to perform surgery on those problems that are best treated through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have an extensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet receive as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait problems empowers a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can provide pain relief and minimize the risk of a large number of complications which the feet generally encounter.
