Specialists at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists invest approximately ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and in fact many podiatry programmes lie within these institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Doctors have acquired wide-ranging healthcare education with an emphasis on concerns involving the ankles and feet. They are skilled to deal with complications ranging from familiar ailments for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more complex for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical education which provide them the prior experience needed to conduct surgery on those troubles that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Knowing biomechanics and gait deviations makes it easy for a Foot doctor to create footwear and orthotics which can offer pain relief and help prevent many conditions which the feet generally encounter.
