Physicians here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. They devote about a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and actually several podiatry training programs lie within these schools. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Doctors have gained thorough healthcare education with an emphasis on complications concerning the ankles and feet. They are taught to address difficulties ranging from regular afflictions for instance fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are much more sophisticated for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have thorough surgical education which supply them the skill needed to execute surgery on those complications that are ideally managed through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait abnormalities facilitates a Podiatric physician to create shoes and orthotics which can provide pain relief and minimize the risk of a large number of complications which the feet usually encounter.
