Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie focus on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. They spend an average of a decade in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to conventional medical school and in reality several podiatry programs are located within these schools. After securing a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 - 3 years.
At the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have obtained substantial medical education with an emphasis on concerns pertaining to the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to treat complications stretching from normal afflictions such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more puzzling like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have thorough surgical education which supply them the skill vital to execute surgical treatment on those issues that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait peculiarities makes it easy for a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and avoid many problems which the feet regularly encounter.
