Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists invest approximately a decade in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to acquire a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to traditional medical school and in fact various podiatry training programs are contained within these schools. Upon procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another 1 to 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have received comprehensive medical training with an emphasis on conditions involving the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are qualified to address difficulties extending from general ailments for example, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are far more perplexing for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have thorough surgical training which furnish them the prior experience required to perform surgery on those problems that are best treated through surgical treatment.
Foot Institute Doctors also have an extensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait irregularities makes it possible for a Foot doctor to design footwear and orthotics which can give pain relief and avoid many problems which the feet routinely encounter.
