Medical doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists invest approximately ten years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and actually numerous podiatry programs are contained within these institutions. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute finish a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatric doctors have acquired comprehensive medical instruction with an attention to on conditions regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to treat difficulties ranging from normal afflictions for instance, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more complicated for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have extensive surgical training which furnish them the prior experience needed to perform surgical treatment on those problems that are best managed through surgical intervention.
Our Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait irregularities enables a Podiatric doctor to design footwear and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and prevent many troubles which the feet regularly encounter.
