Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors put in approximately 10 years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and as a matter of fact many podiatry training programs are located inside these academic institutions. Upon obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatric doctors have obtained considerable health care training with an emphasis on issues pertaining to the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are educated to manage conditions varying from typical conditions such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more sophisticated for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have comprehensive surgical instruction which supply them the experience vital to perform surgery on those concerns that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a thorough knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Recognizing biomechanics and gait deviations facilitates a Foot doctor to create shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and help prevent many complications which the feet generally encounter.
