Doctors at The Foot Institute – Airdrie focus on the surgical and medical treatment of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists put in around 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to acquire a Bachelors Degree, and the next four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and in fact quite a number podiatry training programs are contained within these academic institutions. Upon attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.
At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received significant medical instruction with a focus on problems pertaining to the feet and ankles. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to manage conditions varying from simple disorders for example, ingrown and fungal toenails, to those which are even more perplexing for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at the Foot Institute have extensive surgical training which provide them the experience crucial to conduct surgical treatment on those problems that are best treated through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait irregularities enables a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can offer pain relief and defend against a large number of complications which the feet frequently encounter.
