Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists put in approximately ten years in higher education, the first four years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to have a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to usual medical school and in reality a number of podiatry programmes are contained within these academic institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional one to three years.

At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Podiatric physicians have received wide-ranging health care instruction with a main focus on complications involving the ankles and feet. They are trained to handle complications ranging from common problems like fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are far more complicated like clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical education which provide them the experience crucial to conduct surgery on those problems that are best treated through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors also have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet endure as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait deviations permits a Podiatric physician to create shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and reduce the chances of numerous problems which the feet commonly encounter.
