Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Airdrie specialize in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists put in about ten years in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to standard medical school and in reality several podiatry training programs are contained within these schools. Upon achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 - 3 years.
Upon the conclusion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have received significant health care education with an emphasis on problems regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are trained to deal with concerns extending from simple ailments like fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are far more sophisticated for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical instruction which furnish them the skill essential to perform surgical treatment on those troubles that are ideally remedied through surgical treatment.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Understanding biomechanics and gait irregularities empowers a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and prevent many issues which the feet frequently experience.
