Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. They invest an average of 10 years in education, the first four years in undergrad studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and as a matter of fact various podiatry programmes are contained within these academic institutions. After attaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or post degree residency, our Podiatrists have obtained considerable health care training with a stress on problems regarding the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are trained to address concerns extending from commonplace disorders such as ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are a lot more challenging for example, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have considerable surgical training which provide them the practical experience required to perform surgery on those issues that are best remedied through surgical treatment.
Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs withstand as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Learning about biomechanics and gait problems makes it easy for a Podiatric physician to create shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and protect against a large number of troubles which the feet commonly encounter.
