Airdrie Podiatrist & Foot Clinic

Specialists at The Foot Institute – Airdrie focus on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our podiatrists put in an average of ten years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the 2nd 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to typical medical school and actually quite a number podiatry programmes are located within these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Podiatrists at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or residency for another 1 - 3 years.

At the finalization of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained substantial medical training with an emphasis on issues concerning the feet and ankles. They are educated to handle concerns ranging from standard ailments like ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more obscure for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Doctors at The Foot Institute have extensive surgical instruction which provide them the practical experience necessary to execute surgical treatment on those conditions that are best managed through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a comprehensive practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or perform other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait deviations makes it possible for a Podiatrist to create footwear and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and help prevent many complications which the feet typically encounter.
