Physicians at The Foot Institute – Airdrie provide services for the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors devote about 10 years in learning, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to receive a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to obtain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to conventional medical school and in reality various podiatry programmes are located inside these institutions. Upon procuring a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for yet another one to three years.
At the fulfillment of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have acquired comprehensive medical training with an attention to on issues regarding the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are educated to care for conditions ranging from regular afflictions for example, fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are even more intricate for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have considerable surgical instruction which give them the expertise required to execute surgery on those concerns that are best handled through surgical intervention.
Doctors at the Foot Institute also have a thorough practical knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs undergo as we walk, run or perform other tasks. Recognizing biomechanics and gait peculiarities enables a Podiatrist to develop shoes and orthotics that can offer pain relief and help prevent a large number of issues which the feet frequently experience.
