Dr.’s here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie focus on the medical and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle. Foot Institute Podiatrists spend an average of a decade in education, the first four years in undergrad studies to attain a Bachelors Degree, and the second 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to general medical school and as a matter of fact several podiatry programs are located inside these schools. After receiving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.
At the completion of the internship or residency, our Podiatrists have gained wide-ranging health care education with an emphasis on complications pertaining to the feet and ankles. Our Doctors are taught to treat issues extending from conventional conditions such as fungal and ingrown toe nails, to those which are more complicated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have significant surgical education which furnish them the experience essential to perform surgical treatment on those complications that are ideally treated through surgical intervention.
Foot Institute Doctors furthermore have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Having knowledge of biomechanics and gait irregularities facilitates a Podiatrist to develop footwear and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and prevent countless problems which the feet regularly encounter.
