Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Airdrie concentrate on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. They devote an average of ten years in education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to obtain a Bachelors Degree, and the following four years in Medical School to secure a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to standard medical school and in point of fact several podiatry programs are contained inside these institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional 1 to 3 years.
Upon the finalization of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have obtained extensive healthcare instruction with a stress on issues regarding the ankles and feet. Our Doctors are educated to handle complications varying from conventional conditions for instance, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more challenging including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have substantial surgical education which provide them the expertise required to carry out surgical treatment on those complications that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.
Our Doctors furthermore have a thorough expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet submit to as we walk, run or perform other activities. Realizing biomechanics and gait irregularities enables a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can deliver pain relief and help prevent many complications which the feet generally experience.
