Podiatrists at The Foot Institute – Calgary Downtown focus on the medical and surgical treatment of the ankle and foot. Foot Institute Podiatrists devote about a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergrad studies to achieve a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to receive a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School corresponds to traditional medical school and in fact many podiatry programs lie inside these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute undertake a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for an additional 1 - 3 years.

At the fulfillment of the internship or post degree residency, our Doctors have obtained extensive medical training with a main focus on concerns concerning the feet and ankles. They are studied to address complications ranging from commonplace problems such as fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are even more intricate for example clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have significant surgical training which furnish them the expertise essential to perform surgical treatment on those issues that are best handled through surgical intervention.

Our Doctors also have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the legs and feet undergo as we walk, run or carry out other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait irregularities facilitates a Foot doctor to design shoes and orthotics which can bestow pain relief and defend against a large number of troubles which the feet commonly encounter.
