Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer concentrate on the medical and surgical therapy of the ankle and foot. Our podiatrists spend about a decade in higher education, the first 4 years in undergraduate studies to get a Bachelors Degree, and the second four years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School resembles conventional medical school and actually numerous podiatry programmes lie within these academic institutions. After obtaining a Podiatric Medial Degree, Physicians at the Foot Institute perform a hospital "internship" or post degree residency for another 1 to 3 years.

Upon the completion of the internship or residency, our Doctors have obtained extensive health care training with a concentration on issues involving the ankles and feet. They are qualified to address issues ranging from simple afflictions for example, fungal and ingrown toenails, to those which are much more complicated for instance, clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our Doctors have extensive surgical training which give them the practical experience crucial to perform surgery on those conditions that are best remedied through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have an extensive knowledge and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs go through as we walk, run or carry out other tasks. Understanding biomechanics and gait problems allows a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics which can give pain relief and minimize the risk of countless issues which the feet frequently experience.
