Doctors here at The Foot Institute – Red Deer specialise in the surgical and medical treatment of the foot and ankle. Our doctors invest about 10 years in higher education, the first four years in undergrad studies to secure a Bachelors Degree, and the following 4 years in Medical School to attain a Podiatric Medical Degree. Podiatric Medical School is similar to regular medical school and in fact many podiatry training programs are located inside these schools. After achieving a Podiatric Medial Degree, Doctors at the Foot Institute complete a hospital "internship" or residency for an additional one to three years.

At the completion of the internship or residency, our Foot doctors have received extensive medical training with an emphasis on conditions pertaining to the ankles and feet. Foot Institute Doctors are trained to address conditions ranging from basic afflictions for example, ingrown and fungal toe nails, to those which are much more complicated including clubfoot, bunions, or reconstructive surgery of the foot. Our physicians have thorough surgical education which provide them the skill required to perform surgery on those troubles that are ideally treated through surgical treatment.

Doctors at the Foot Institute furthermore have a comprehensive expertise and understanding of biomechanics, which is the study of the forces which the feet and legs experience as we walk, run or perform other activities. Knowing biomechanics and gait deviations makes it easy for a Podiatrist to design shoes and orthotics that can give pain relief and protect against a large number of troubles which the feet usually encounter.
